The machine that The Nice forums is on suffered a nasty motherboard failure a few weeks ago. We have redundant drives and mirrored backups, so absolutely no data was lost, though.

As the software that The Nice forums runs on was ancient and ill supported, and the machine had been scheduled for end-of-life anyways, I set up a new space on a new machine to move the forums to. I uploaded all the old data to the new location, and talked to Terrence on the phone about moving the forums to new software and setting up the new site. He was agreeable, and everything seemed to be on track for relaunching the site.

That's where things have stood for a few weeks now. I have heard nothing about progress with the new site. I have no idea if Terrence is having issues with the forum data import or what. Sorry, I just don't know. But that's why The Nice forums have been down all this time.

I wouldn't engage in this blatant blame shifting here, except I'm getting a lot of flack about the long downtime, and I just have no control over the issue. Sorry everyone.

I've been asked by a bunch of people if I'd accept ads on this site. And the answer is now yes. At the top of the page, there are now three ad slots available through Project Wonderful. You can bid on placing ads there, and possibly even get free advertising, if nobody else is bidding against you. This should be a good place for webcomics to get some exposure.

Before anybody starts worrying that this site will soon be nothing but ad spaces, I reassure you that I'm about done. I may even trim back the google ads, as they seem to be poorly targeted for this site.
